CIRCULATION POLICIES & PROCEDURES

Loan Policies

  • Books, Magazines and Audio discs are loaned for a period of two weeks.  They may be renewed in person or by phone if the item is not on reserve.
  • DVD’s are loaned for one week.  There is a limit to three DVD’s to one household.  They may be renewed if necessary. The audience viewing guides on movies will be followed.
  • The reference Collection does not circulate except at the discretion of the librarian.
  • Interloan materials are subject to follow the loan period of the library’s loan policies unless otherwise specified.  Patrons are expected to pay any fees involved in an interloan.
  • Bulk loans to schools, retirement homes, or other groups can be arranged by the librarian.
  • The librarian reserves the right to restrict the number of items a patron may borrow, particularly in the case of items that are in short supply or in high demand.

Overdue Fines

  • Fines on overdue books, magazines, and audio discs are ten cents daily with a maximum fine of four dollars.
  • DVD’s are fined fifty cents daily with a maximum of six dollars.
  • Patrons are required to pay replacement costs for any lost or damaged materials.
  • Borrowing privileges may be suspended until excessive fines owed to the library are paid in full.

Holds

  • There are no limits on the number of holds a patron may place.
  • Holds must be picked up to one week after notification that the item or items have arrived at the library.
  • If items are not picked up by the end of the week, they will be returned to the shelf or loaning library.

 

COMPUTER USE (Adults)

  • No time limit is set.  However, if people are waiting user is restricted to ½ hour.
  • Public library workstations are not private or secure.  Library patrons use the Internet at their own risk.
  • Sign-up records identifying users will be kept for purposes of ascertaining violators of the library’s Internet policy.
  • Internet resources are for legal and legitimate purposes only.  Specific unacceptable uses are, but not limited to:

Tampering with computer hardware or software
Disruptive equipment or system performance
Libeling or harassing other users
Violating federal, state or local laws
Deliberately disseminating or displaying obscene materials or child pornography as defined by federal and state law

  • Printing is available at 25 cents per page to be paid at the circulation desk.
  • Patrons must wear headphones while accessing audio files.
  • Patrons under the age of 18 must have a permission form signed by a parent or guardian. The option of their parent/guardian in signing is for them to use either the filtered or unfiltered computers.
  • Patrons who do not follow the policies and procedures for use of library computers or are disruptive may lose their computer privileges as determined by the Library Director.  Disputes will be referred to the Board of Trustees for resolution.

 

COMPUTER USE (Minors)

  • All children under 18 years old must have our Internet permission form signed by a parent/guardian to be able to use the Internet. Teens, ages 14 to 17, have the option of their parent/guardian signing permission for them to use either the filtered or unfiltered computers, as the parent/guardian chooses.
  • The staff person has the authority to end the session of those who do not follow the policies of the lab and/or are disruptive. This may result in the loss of computer privileges. Patrons will also be required to make restitution for any damages to any computer components, hardware, and/or software.
  • Payment for pages printed must be made at the time of printing.
  • Everyone is expected to work quietly at the computers and use the equipment carefully. The computers must be used within the confines of currently installed software and hardware.

 

WIRELESS INTERNET ACCESS

  • Users are responsible for making sure their computer has the correct settings and necessary hardware.  Users should refer to their owner’s manuals or other support services offered by their computer manufacturer. If a user has problems accessing the Internet over these connections, the staff will verify that the library’s connections are up and running.  They cannot assist in making changes to the user’s network setting or perform any troubleshooting on the user’s computer.
  • The library makes no guarantee as to the compatibility of the user’s equipment with the library’s network.
  • The Internet is a public communication and cannot ever be considered secure.
  • Cautious and informed wireless users should not transmit credit card information, passwords, or other sensitive information. The Library is not responsible for any personal information that is compromised, or any damage caused to the user’s hardware or software.
  • Internet resources are for legal and legitimate purposes only.  Specific unacceptable uses are, but not limited to:

Libeling or harassing other users
Violating federal, state or local laws
Deliberately disseminating or displaying obscene materials or child pornography as defined by federal and state law

  • Patrons must wear headphones while accessing audio files.
  • The Library’s Internet Policy governs wireless Internet access in the library.
